Zbrojovka Accuracy International (AI) byla založena britskými sportovními střelci v anglickém Portsmouthu roku 1980. V roce 1985 získala AI kontrakt na pušku L96A1 od britského ministerstva obrany. Puška L96, produkt úzké spolupráce inženýrů AI s britskými speciálními jednotkami a vládními uživateli, se stala zlomovým bodem v designu taktických zbraní. Následovaly další zakázky, například pro Švédsko (PSG90) v roce 1991 nebo německou armádu (G22) v roce 1995, které vedly k vývoji ikonické řady zbraní AW, pušky L115A3 („Dlouhán“) pro britské ministerstva obrany v roce 2008.
